"My vision of Dental Care of Canby is to provide gentle and personalized care, be current in the latest 21st-century dentistry trends, be committed to the community, and provide treatment plans conservatively, within the means of the patients' budgets. I strive to provide dental care that is gentle and patient-focused, helping patients smile more. At Dental Care of Canby, our motto is: 'A Lifetime of Smiles Begins Here.'"
-Alan K. Neal, DMD
Dr. Alan Neal, an Oregon native, grew up three doors down from "The Goonies" House in Astoria. He has been the owner of Dental Care of Canby since 2014. He has been a licensed dentist since graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2003. Dr. Neal hopes to be a great hometown dentist to his patients and to be able to answer any questions concerning teeth and smiles. Dr. Neal's ultimate professional goal is to own a dental office where he can grow his clinical skills and continue to provide quality care using the latest trends in dentistry.
While on active duty, Dr. Neal participated in humanitarian missions to Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Thailand, and domestically in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He is an active Canby Rotary member and has contributed to many sports activities in the local community.
Dr. Neal and his wife, Lisa, are considered accomplished world travelers, but their biggest accomplishments to date are their two active sons. Together, Dr. Neal and Lisa bought the Dental Care of Canby practice to settle in a nice community and be near their parents and extended family. Dr. Neal and Lisa's hobbies include traveling, hiking, reading, photography, Project Life, growing the meanest, greenest lawn in their neighborhood, and going to as many beautiful Oregon State Parks as possible. As an avid mountain climber, Dr. Neal is also pursuing his "High-Pointers" goal of summiting the highest mountains in each of the 50 US states and all the Cascade peaks.
Experience
During dental school, he earned the USAF Health Professions Scholarship (HPSP). Upon graduation, he served in the USAF for nine years as an Advanced General Dentist. His assignments included South Carolina, Louisiana, and three-year tours in Japan and Germany. He is an Air Command Staff College graduate and earned the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal. He participated in recovery efforts in Louisiana following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He separated in 2012 as a Major (O-4). Additionally, Dr. Neal has experiences and photos from 30 other countries to discuss and share.
While serving in the USAF, he furthered his dental education by completing a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency. This led to him earning a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) in 2008. The FAGD encompasses obtaining 500+ hours of dental continuing education classes and passing a comprehensive exam. In 2021, he completed his requirements for his Mastership in the AGD (MAGD), which involves completing over 1,100 hours of continuing dental education, including 400 hours of participation (hands-on) training—less than 2% of all dentists earn this award. Dr. Neal’s real passion is dental implants. He obtained his Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI) and completed the Oregon AGD two-year implant course.
Dr. Neal is an active member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Oregon Dental Association, Clackamas Country Dental Association, American Academy of General Dentists (AGD), and International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
